HOW TO SPEED UP YOUR WI-FI
Your internet router is the gateway between Zoom Internet, your internet service provider (ISP) and all of your devices. Wired connections to your internet router will always receive the highest speeds. A high signal strength measurement from the wired connection is quite often a good indicator that your continuing Wi-Fi connection in your premises will be fast and reliable, instead of slow and intermittent.
However, once routed off to wireless devices within your premises, the speed of any Wi-Fi signal is going to be compromised to some degree. First always consider plugging in directly to the modem/router with an Ethernet connection and use Speedtest.net to check potential full speeds when directly wired to the router. This will give you a baseline comparison with any wireless setup in your property.
IF YOUR WI-FI SPEED IS SLOWER THAN EXPECTED
- Try turning your Router and computer or device off for a few minutes and then restarting it.
- Place your Router in an elevated position on table or a shelf, rather than on the floor.
- For best overall coverage throughout your house, put the Router somewhere central, so that the signal is radiated to all areas. Also place away from thick walls, if possible, as walls made of brick, stone, plaster, cement or with metal may cause problems. Double glazed glass also can cause problems. Worse are ceramic, concrete, metal objects and mirrors, which can reflect visible light and radio waves alike.
INTERNET CONNECTION TROUBLESHOOTING
If you have a problem with your internet connection, make sure that the following points are all correct :
- Check that the power light is on and that the power cord is plugged in properly.
- Check that the cabling is correctly connected to the supplied power adapter.
- Does the cable from the external aerial go into the POE socket?
- Check that the cable goes to the Router from socket LAN to WAN socket
- Check that all cables are plugged in properly into the sockets as shown in the diagram.
IF YOUR SPEED IS SLOWER THAN EXPECTED
- Re-starting your router before running the test can help give the most accurate results.
- Connect your computer or device with an Ethernet cable rather than using wireless. This will help you understand if you have an internal wireless problem or a speed problem.
